Roots of Reiki.
Reiki is an ancient healing method that dates back about 2500 years, but lay dormant and was forgotten for a long time. In the nineteenth century the system was re-discovered by Dr. Mikao Usui. During his life he passed on this knowledge to his grand masters. It is through them the Rieki lineage has been handed down.
The practitioner giving Reiki channels Energy through their own body and out through their hands to the Client.
Reiki is passed on through initiations in which the student is connected up as a channel by a Reiki Master. During the initiation the student is connected to the Reiki lineage and this protects the student from taking on any negative energy from the Client. There are three levels of Reiki:
Level 1. Self healing and hands on healing of others.
Level 2. Distant healing.
Level 3. Reiki master and teacher.

Reiki is an intelligent life force. As the life force has intelligence there is no need for the practitioner to guide the energy with their mind. Although the hands are placed in certain positions on the body, the energy does not just stay beneath the hands. The energy will flow to the area's that needs healing. The therapist is just a conductor and the life force itself is the intelligence. During a session of Reiki there is no need to undress as reiki penetrates through clothes. In the case of broken bones, reiki can be administered through the plaster cast.
What will I feel during a session of Reiki?
Everybody's experience of Reiki is different. What you feel at the time of the session will depend on what your needs are at that moment and also on how sensitive you are to the subtle energy changes in the body. Some people have strong physical and emotional reaction's, this indicates that the body's healing processes are working. Other people as if they are in a very relaxed state. On a physical level Reiki can clear toxins which may have accumulated in the body, while on an emotional level it allows hidden feelings of Vulnerability, irritability and sadness to surface and be released. These reaction's are usually referred to as "the healing crisis" and is part of the cleansing process and may leave the person feeling lighter and more focused.
Who can be treated by Reiki.

What ailments can Reiki treat?
A Reiki session will last up to 1 hour. Following a Reiki session the energy continues to move throughout the body for up to 24 hour's. For this reason it is common practice to receive 3 to 4 treatment's on consecutive day's. Some people may have a strong reaction after the first session. The second session, however will smooth this over. During the third session people usually feel quite good. Depending on your particular problem, you can then decide to have a follow up treatment once a week for a further 3 weeks. There is no set pattern or number of treatments. To a large extent the number of treatments required depends on the problem; the more serious the problem the more Reiki is needed.
